Water Line Leak Detectors

Locate Water Line Leaks Quickly and Accurately with Acoustic Leak Detectors

Are you tired of unnecessary digging and spending hours in the mud, just to find that you are digging in the wrong location? Stop spending all of your valuable man-hours looking for individual water line leaks.

The leak detector systems carried by Precision Outdoor Tech are designed with water service professionals in mind. Whether you are a rural water district manager, city water professional, or plumbing contractor, our leak detection system can help you complete your projects efficiently and with the accuracy that the job requires.

Digital Water Line Leak Detector

Our Water Line Leak Detectors easily identify leaking pipelines, and pinpoint exact leak locations

All of the leak detectors carried by Precision Outdoor Tech are acoustic leak detectors. Using sensitive ground microphones, our line of products can easily identify which line the leak is on. After you’ve identified the line with the leak, our detectors can then switch to pinpoint mode. Using a variety of features, the detectors will quickly and accurately pinpoint the precise leak location, meaning you can spend less time searching and can repair breaks faster.

Acoustic Leak Detectors Get Results

The products carried by Precision Outdoor Tech work through acoustic detection of leaks in buried pipelines. When water under pressure is flowing through a pipeline and encounters a break or leak, it escapes with an audible “hiss”, “thump”, or “roar”.

Although this is usually below the threshold of human hearing, a ground microphone and amplifier can easily read the leak sound. Think of an acoustic leak detector as a “stethoscope for the ground”.

Since different materials conduct sound differently, the loudness of the leak noise is determined by the medium that the pipeline is buried in. Dense materials such as concrete, asphalt, and hard packed clay will transmit sound further and louder than loose packed soils such as sands or loams.

After taking varying densities into account, locating the leak is simple: the louder the sound, the closer the leak.

Acoustic Water Line Leak Detectors

Acoustic Leak Detectors can be used in the following applications

  • Municipal Water Leak Surveys
  • Leak Pinpointing on water supply lines
  • Municipal
  • Industrial
  • Residential
  • Slab leak detection
  • Irrigation leak detection

All of our Water Line Leak Detectors are from Subsurface Instruments

Subsurface Instruments produces some of the best acoustic leak locating devices on the market. Trusted for years by city and rural water districts across the county, Subsurface Instruments’ leak detectors are water professional tested and approved. Whether you are a rural water district manager, city water professional, or plumbing contractor, our leak detection systems can help you complete your projects efficiently and with the accuracy that the jobs require.

Our most popular leak detection system is the LD-12. With both leak survey and pinpointing capabilities, the LD-12 provides one of the best leak detection values on the market.

Our Water Line Leak Detectors are Equipped with the Features You Need to Find Leaks Fast

Amplifiers: The sounds of a leak, even when read by a ground microphone, might be too low to hear. Our devices have amplifiers that can increase the signal above 60dB and easily into the audible range.

Noise Filters: Variable frequency filters on most of our devices allow ambient noise or interference from sources such as transformers, street traffic, or barking dogs to be filtered out. This allows the operator to concentrate on the leak sounds that they are looking for.

Ground Microphones: Our sensitive ground microphones operate with piezoelectric crystals and pick up leaks that are too quiet for the un-aided ear to hear.

Noise Cut-Off Switch: Protects your hearing from unexpected loud signals

Signal Memory: Several of our models allow the user to record and store acoustic signals. This allows comparison of signals along the pipeline for a more precise pinpoint.

Contact Rods: For direct contact with hydrants, valves, or exposed pipelines. These are used during water leak surveys to identify which lines have leaks.

Magnets: Similar to contact rods, these allow the ground microphone to stick directly to ferromagnetic fixtures such as hydrants and valves.

Digital Meters: Provide numeric readouts to remove guesswork when attempting to identify the area with the loudest acoustic signal.

Analog Meters: Metered leak detectors allow the user to better estimate where the loudest signal is located on the leaking pipeline.
