The LD-18 is a listening device for water leaks. It consists of a microphone attached to an amplification device. With the microphone sensor placed in the search area, the amplifier will transmit any leak noises received through the microprocessor and into the headphones worn by the operator. The louder the sound of the leak, the closer you are to the break.

The LD-18 can be used to pinpoint individual leaks.

Once a section of line with a leak has been identified, the operator can use the LD-18 to work down the pipeline while listening for the leak through the ground surface. The microphone has been optimized for listening through pavement and concrete slabs. The louder the sound of the leak, the closer you are to the break in the line. The digital meter on the amplifier allows for direct measurement of loudness and the onboard computer allows for the storing and graphing of noise level by reading location.
