Identify leaks system-wide with the LC-5000 Leak Correlator
Identify leaks on your water system before stopping traffic and breaking ground. The LC-5000 leak noise correlator is used to identify multiple leak locations at once with pinpoint accuracy and will save your city time and money..
When to use leak correlation equipment
The LC-5000 Leak Correlator is a far more powerful and accurate leak location system than microphone-based systems. It works well in utility-crowded environments where one or more leaks are suspected. Cities and municipalities with multiple breaks can use leak noise correlation to precisely pinpoint correct line and leak locations over multiple city-blocks.
Minimize road closures, stay on schedule, and stay in budget
The Subsurface Instruments’ LC-5000 leak correlator an indispensable tool for water utilities and infrastructure maintenance teams. The accuracy of the LC-5000 reduces repair costs related to system downtime, mis-location of leaks, and extra work hours. Keep your public stakeholders and city council happy with fewer road and sidewalk closures and get your projects done under budget.
How a correlator works
The LC-5000 correlation leak detector is used by mounting preamplifier sensors to fittings such as fire hydrants, valves, or meters on underground pipelines to capture the sound of water leaks. The correlator is then tuned to the acoustic signature of the leak. The pipe diameter, material, and water pressure are then entered into the correlator’s main processing unit.
The LC-5000 computer calculates the distance between each transmitter using GPS. Using algorithms based on the input data, the correlator finally computes the distance from each transmitter to the precise leak locations along the line. The leak location data is then displayed on the screen of the main processor unit.
Individual leak locations can then be further verified with a traditional ground sensor microphone.
Keep services operational while diagnosing damage
The LC-5000 leak correlator system is non-intrusive: transmitters can be attached to an active water pipeline via a water valve, hydrant, or meter. This means the system can stay operational while the leak is being located, cutting down on service outage times.
The LC-5000’s leak correlation equipment
The Main Processor Unit
The primary unit is equipped with a 24-bit digital signal processor, which enables lightning-fast correlations. Weighing about 5 pounds, this compact device is easily portable throughout the day. It can project up to 6 correlations on the screen when 4 transmitters are deployed, and the user can conveniently access each correlation through the touchscreen interface.
The Pre-Amp Transmitter
Each amplifier/transmitter is designed to be fully submersible and is powered by lithium-ion rechargeable batteries. It can be connected to the main unit using cables or radio. Additionally, the operator can attach an external antenna to the transmitter when it is connected to a deeper pipe and hidden from the sky. Additional pre-amplifiers can be used as repeaters to expand the radio range in case there is no direct pipeline access near the leak point.
