Subsurface Instruments LD-15 Water Leak Detector
The LD-15 Leak Detector: identify leaking pipes and pinpoint individual leaks
Are you looking for an easy to use, all-around leak survey tool? With the LD-15's adjustable high and low filter ranges you can conduct water leak surveys on a system-wide basis AND to zero in on individual leak locations. The LD-15 leak detector comes with a selection of pre-set noise filters and was designed with the beginning utility professional in mind.
The LD-15 is a listening device for water leaks. It consists of a microphone attached to an amplification device with pre-set noise filter capabilities. The high range filters on the amplifier are used for the initial survey. The low range filters are used to pinpoint the underground leaks directly. With the microphone sensor placed in the search area, the amplifier transmits leak noises received into the headphones worn by the operator. Note that water must be running through the pipeline for the LD-15 to hear the leak.

Save Time, Money, and Frustration: pinpoint leak locations BEFORE you dig
The LD-15 is designed as a listening device for water leaks. It consists of a microphone attached to an amplification device with noise filter capabilities. With the microphone sensor placed in the search area, the amplifier will transmit any leak noises received into the headphones worn by the operator. The louder the sound of the leak, the closer you are to the break.
Water can travel a long way from a leak source before breaking the ground surface. Eliminate guesswork by using the LD-15 to zero in on the precise leak location before you dig.
Don't get distracted: The LD-15 can filter out background noise
The amplifier design has pre-determined filter settings of “high” and “low”. The high range filter on the amplifier is used for the initial survey. The low range filter is then used to pinpoint the underground leaks directly. The filters allow the operator to screen out the hum from traffic, transformers, power lines, and other background noises.
Don't know which pipeline is leaking? Identify the correct line with a Water Leak Survey
Use base plate on the microphone to listen for pipeline leaks at hydrants, meters, and valves. The direct connection will allow you to listen for leaks along long lengths of pipeline. The louder the sound of the leak, the closer you are to the break. The meter on the amplifier allows for direct measurement of loudness, eliminating guesswork.
Then Pinpoint the Leak: zero-in on precise leak locations.
Once the section of line with the leak has been identified, the operator can work down the pipeline listening for the leak directly through the ground surface. The microphone has been optimized for listening through pavement and concrete slabs above the buried line. As with the leak survey, the louder the sound of the leak, the closer you are to the break in the line. The meter on the amplifier allows for direct measurement of loudness.
