Find and record plastic water lines with Subsurface Instruments All Materials Locator
Are you and your team frustrated with locating untraced plastic pipelines? The solution can be found with the AML Pro by Subsurface Instruments. This device is designed as an all materials locator and can easily detect buried PVC and other non-traced and non-metallic pipelines. Not only will the AML locate a plastic pipeline, but it can also determine its depth. This PVC locating device is perfect for finding underground water, sewer, or irrigation pipelines. Save time and money and stop chasing untraced PVC!
How the AML PRO works
The AML Pro projects an ultra-high radio frequency from an antenna on the end of the locator. Changes in density create distortions in the reflected radio waves that are detected by receivers located on either side of the blade. An onboard microprocessor then interprets the signals and alerts the operator to any density change through a combination of LED lights, audio signal, and laser. This technology allows the user to search for buried plastic pipelines based on differences in density.
The AML Pro can locate more than PVC.
The ability to read changes in underground density means that the AML Pro is more than a PVC pipeline locator. It can find any buried object with an edge, as long as the density of the object is different from the background material. In soil this includes metal pipelines, cables, valve covers, ceramic or clay sewer lines, buried concrete slabs, and field tile drain systems. The AML Pro can even trace pipelines buried under concrete or asphalt. Another use for the AML is verification of 811 marks prior to breaking ground.
In addition to locating an object, the AML can also be used to determine the depth. By using the method illustrated below, an operator can get a good idea of just how deep a pipeline is located.
How to use the AML Pro to find underground PVC pipelines:
The AML's high sensitivity to density change means that the device does have a learning curve. If you are considering purchasing a AML, it is highly recommended that you contact us so that we can explain the best way to use the system for your location needs. Our representative will walk you through the strengths and weaknesses of the device and how to best fit the AML into your underground utility location tool-kit. If you are located in east Texas you can even call us for an in person demonstration.
The quick-guide video below walks through the product kit and demonstrates methods for using the AML Pro and the AML Plus in the field.
